Enzyme-assisted extraction of red seaweed Solieria chordalis (C.Agardh) J. Agardh 1842—the starting point for the production of biostimulants of plant growth and biosorbents of metal ions

Abstract The underexploited biomass of red seaweed Solieria chordalis (C.Agardh) J.Agardh 1842 represents a potential source for biotechnological development. Extracts obtained from S. by enzyme-assisted extraction using Protamex® and Neutrase® were evaluated as biostimulants plant growth. Additionally, this alga, well post-extraction residues, examined biosorbents metal ions. biostimulant properties different concentrations algal extracts (20, 40, 60, 80, 100%) tested in vitro on radish seeds. Chlorophyll content, weight, height measured each experimental group. For all concentrations, the plants demonstrated higher chlorophyll content heavier than control group, showing that enzyme could be used efficient biostimulants. biosorption residues Cr(III) ions conditions—pH, initial ion concentration, biosorbent dosage. maximum capacity was 48.1 mg/g, residue with Protamex®, 47.6 Neutrase®, 50.5 mg/g. binding to surface confirmed FT-IR analysis. Good materials can production novel components fertilizers or wastewater treatment. In paper, it shown waste turned into valuable bio-products environmental-friendly technologies.
